Cross River APC Confirms Governor Otu's Automatic Ticket For 2027 Race

APC in Cross River Grants Governor Bassey Otu and Deputy Peter Odey an Automatic Ticket
Naija News has learned that the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made a bold move by granting Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, an automatic ticket for the 2027 General Election. This announcement was made on Monday by the APC State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, sending a clear message to the party's members and the public alike.
Alphonsus Eba emphasized that this decision was final, urging other party members aspiring for political positions to begin their consultations. According to him, apart from Governor Otu and his deputy, no other individual had been given an automatic ticket by the party. This means that other aspirants will need to work hard to secure their spots, returning to their constituents and rallying support ahead of the elections.
Why Governor Otu and His Deputy Were Chosen
During the meeting of the State Working Committee and the State Executive Committee of APC, it was resolved that Governor Otu would be the party’s sole candidate in 2027. The reasoning behind this decision is simple: "Nobody changes a winning team," Eba said. The governor and his deputy have been instrumental in steering the state toward progress and stability, and the party sees no reason to replace them.

Eba added that even if Governor Otu were hesitant about running again, the party would still present only one ticket bearing his name, just as they did in 2022. "We appeal to him to listen to the desires of party members and accept the nomination," Eba stated, underscoring the importance of this decision for the future of the party and the state.
Commendation for the Acting Governor
Eba also took the opportunity to commend the deputy governor, who is currently acting as governor, for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s actions in Rivers. He noted that there had been some confusion and misrepresentation about the state's position on certain matters. However, the acting governor stepped in to clarify that South-South governors had not consulted him before opposing Tinubu’s decision, which helped to clear the air.
He praised President Tinubu for his efforts in restoring peace in Rivers, averting what could have been a political crisis. Eba believes that this kind of leadership is essential for maintaining stability and ensuring progress in the region. The APC in Cross River is confident that with Governor Otu and Deputy Peter Odey at the helm, they can continue to build on the successes they've achieved so far and take the state to even greater heights in the coming years.
