Atiku's Aide Blasts Wike: Your Battle Is To Destroy PDP, Not For Good

Atiku Under Fire: Aide Claims Lies About PDP's 2023 VP Selection Process
Let me break this down for you. Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has fired back at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He's accusing Atiku of lying about the process that led to the selection of the People's Democratic Party’s (PDP) Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 election. It’s a dramatic showdown, and Olayinka is pulling no punches.
Naija News is reporting that Olayinka isn’t just upset—he’s outright criticizing Atiku for allegedly lying during Ramadan, a time when truthfulness is supposed to be at the forefront of everyone's minds.
Atiku's Claims: The Committee's Rankings
In a recent interview, Atiku claimed that a committee set up by the PDP ranked Ifeanyi Okowa, the former Governor of Delta State, as the top choice for the party’s vice-presidential candidate. According to Atiku, Nyesom Wike was ranked second, and former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel came in third. Atiku went on to say that he selected Okowa based on the committee’s recommendation. Sounds simple, right? But hold on—there’s more to this story.

Olayinka strongly disputes Atiku’s version of events. He points out that it doesn’t make sense for someone with only two votes to be ranked higher than someone who received 13 votes. He’s calling out Atiku for what he sees as a blatant distortion of the facts.
Olayinka emphasizes that the committee report clearly showed Wike as the first choice with 13 votes, while Okowa had only two. He adds that Wike never actively campaigned to be Atiku’s running mate. According to Olayinka, Atiku made the decision to pick Okowa himself and then offered Wike the position under certain conditions, which the FCT Minister ultimately accepted.
Olayinka's Take: The Truth Behind Atiku's Decision
Olayinka laid it out plain and simple: “The committee set up by the PDP picked Wike as Atiku’s running mate, but for reasons best known to him, Atiku settled for Okowa, who had two votes from the committee members.” He’s urging Atiku to come clean about his decision instead of trying to mislead the public with false narratives.
“That’s the truth Atiku should tell and stand with, not trying to color his decision with falsehood,” Olayinka said. It’s clear that Olayinka is not letting Atiku off the hook without a fight.
Olayinka Calls Out Atiku for Lying During Ramadan
Olayinka didn’t stop there. He took the opportunity to remind Atiku of the importance of honesty, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan. He cited a Hadith from Al-Bukhari, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against lying, stating, “Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, and ignorance, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) has no need of him giving up his food and drink.”
Olayinka expressed his disappointment, saying, “It is unfortunate that Atiku chose to tell lies so brazenly during the holy month of Ramadan, obviously forgetting that Allah (SWT) does not hearken to the prayers of liars, probably the reason he has continually failed in his desperation to be president of Nigeria.”

Despite the tension, Olayinka reassured everyone that Wike has no regrets about not being selected as Atiku’s running mate or his stance during the 2023 presidential election. He emphasized, “Like I said earlier, Wike has no regret for Atiku not picking him as his running mate and he also has no regret taking the position he took concerning the presidential election.”
This political drama isn’t just about rankings and votes—it’s about trust, honesty, and the principles that guide leaders. As the debate unfolds, one thing is clear: the truth will always find its way to the surface.
