Nyesom Wike's Team Slams Bayelsa Governor Over Unfounded Rally Claims

Wike's Team Calls Out Bayelsa Governor for Distracting from Governance
In a bold move, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, to shift his focus back to the core issues of governance. According to Olayinka, the governor's recent claims about a supposed mega rally in support of Wike are unfounded and only serve as a distraction from the pressing matters that need attention. Olayinka emphasized that if the FCT Minister were to attend any rally, he would personally ensure that the relevant security agencies were well-informed.
Olayinka Dismisses Diri's Claims as Baseless
Olayinka was clear in dismissing Governor Diri's allegations as nothing more than baseless accusations. He expressed disappointment that a governor, equipped with all the necessary security resources, would resort to raising alarms based on mere suspicions. In his statement, Olayinka highlighted the importance of respecting the rights of Nigerians to express their support for any political figure. He argued that such freedoms should not be questioned or restricted simply because of unfounded fears.
“It’s incredibly unfortunate that a governor, who has access to top-notch security apparatus, would go on national television raising alarms based on mere suspicions. This is not just about a rally; it’s about the right of Nigerians to support whoever they wish, wherever they wish, and whenever they wish,” Olayinka remarked.

Clarifying Wike's Position on Political Rallies
Olayinka went on to clarify that if Nyesom Wike were ever to attend a political rally, whether in Bayelsa or elsewhere, he would personally inform the appropriate security agencies. He reiterated that Wike has nothing to hide and would ensure transparency in all his actions. This clarification was aimed at dispelling any doubts or misunderstandings that may have been circulating.
“If the FCT Minister decides to attend a rally in Bayelsa or any other state, he would personally inform the security agencies. His involvement will be open and transparent because he is not afraid of anything,” Olayinka stated firmly.
Accusing Diri of Political Childishness
Olayinka criticized Governor Diri for what he described as "childish governance." He questioned the governor's motives, suggesting that using Wike as a scapegoat for his own political shortcomings was both immature and inappropriate. Olayinka pointed out that Diri's actions, such as calling meetings with the State Security Council and the Bayelsa Elders Council, were unnecessary and only served to highlight his lack of focus on governance.
“Is this really how governance in Bayelsa has devolved? Must the governor resort to using Wike as a cover-up for his own failures? This is not the leadership we expect from someone in his position,” Olayinka questioned.
Recalling Diri's Past Support from Wike
Olayinka also reminded Governor Diri of his past actions when he sought Wike's support during his reelection bid. He recounted how Diri, accompanied by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Lokpobiri, and David Lyon, had approached Wike with humility, even going as far as kneeling before him. Olayinka expressed disappointment that someone who once benefited from Wike's support would now publicly disparage him.
“It’s truly shameful that the same Wike who once supported him is now being disparaged. It’s a clear indication of someone who lacks a conscience and is willing to do anything to cover up his own inadequacies. This is unfortunate and speaks volumes about the governor’s character,” Olayinka concluded.
