NNPP Opens Up On Potential Alliance With Atiku Abubakar’s Coalition

What’s Next for NNPP: Exploring Collaborations Ahead of 2027
As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has made it clear that they're in the midst of some serious brainstorming sessions. The party is actively engaging with various groups, stakeholders, and political entities, all in preparation for the upcoming 2027 elections. This move signals their commitment to building alliances that could shape the future of Nigeria's political scene.
In a recent statement, Ladipo Johnson, the National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, opened up about the party's stance on joining forces with the opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. While the NNPP has not yet confirmed its involvement, Johnson emphasized that the party is keeping its options open and is focused on what's best for the nation.
Staying Neutral for Now
According to Johnson, the opposition in Nigeria is a vast and diverse spectrum. Right now, the NNPP is choosing to keep its cards close to its chest, not revealing its exact trajectory or alliances for the 2027 elections. What they do want everyone to know is their unwavering commitment to improving governance in Nigeria. Johnson stated that this is the primary focus of the party at the moment.

While the NNPP hasn't officially joined Atiku's coalition, Johnson made it clear that the door is open. He explained that coalitions can form at any time, and the NNPP could very well decide to join forces with others in the quest to unseat the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
Consultations and Conversations
Johnson further elaborated on the NNPP's approach, saying, "The opposition platform is incredibly broad in this country. What I can assure you is that the NNPP members are currently in discussions with a wide range of groups. We've chosen to keep these interactions private for now until we've reached significant and timely decisions."
He continued, "When you look at the coalition announced by Atiku Abubakar, it's evident that people, groups, or parties can join almost at any point. Some might still be in talks with others, and when those discussions bear fruit, they might decide to join a broader coalition or go a different route entirely. The NNPP is actively consulting far and wide to ensure we contribute effectively to bringing about good governance in Nigeria."
Johnson went on to highlight the NNPP's vision for the country. "Our goal is to improve security, strengthen the value of the Naira, reduce inflation, and provide hope to our youth and women. We want to create an environment where entrepreneurship can thrive, and everyone can make a positive impact on the economy. This is what we believe in, and this is what we're working tirelessly towards," he said during a recent interview with Nigerian Tribune.
