Lagos Police Debunks Fake Kidnapping Alert Along Gbagada Expressway

Scope

Police Clear the Air on Kidnapping Rumors

Let’s get straight to it—there’s been a lot of chatter online about a supposed rise in kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway in Lagos. But here’s the deal: the Lagos State Police Command has stepped forward to set the record straight. In a firm statement issued on Friday, they’ve outright dismissed these claims as nothing more than recycled fake news.

Spokesperson Speaks Out

Now, let me introduce you to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson. In a crystal-clear statement, Hundeyin made it abundantly clear that this report is nothing but hot air. He urged residents to not give it a second thought. Here’s what he had to say: “The command wishes to, for the umpteenth time, debunk a recurring advisory on social media purportedly emanating from the command about ‘an increase in kidnapping incidents along Gbagada Expressway.’”

Let’s break it down further. Hundeyin explained that the so-called security alert being pinned on the police is completely false. And guess what? This misleading information has been floating around for over a year now. He pointed out that this fake advisory first popped up in January 2024 and was swiftly debunked. It reared its ugly head again in September 2024, only to be debunked once more. Now, here we are in March 2025, and the same old story is back, much to the dismay of those spreading such falsehoods.

But hold up—just because the report is fake doesn’t mean the police are ignoring the concerns it raises. Hundeyin assured the public that the command is fully aware of these issues and is taking action. “That notwithstanding, the command is not unmindful of the concerns raised in the alert,” he stated. It’s good to know they’re keeping an ear to the ground.

    Revamping Security Measures

And here’s where things get interesting. Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Jimoh Moshood, has taken decisive action. He’s ordered a comprehensive review of the security framework in the area. Hundeyin shared the details: “CP Jimoh has ordered an immediate review of the security architecture of the entire area.”

This isn’t just a one-time fix. The police plan to keep a close eye on the situation, continuously monitoring and tweaking the security measures to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Hundeyin emphasized that “the improved security architecture will be regularly reviewed and optimized to ensure absolute security for road users, residents of the area, and the entire people of Lagos.” That’s a comforting thought, right?

    Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

Now, here’s where you come in, folks. The police have encouraged residents to carry on with their daily lives without letting fear get in the way. But—and this is a big but—they’re also asking everyone to stay vigilant. Hundeyin put it this way: “To this end, CP Jimoh urges residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation.”

And if you notice anything suspicious? Speak up! The police have provided a few handy numbers for the public to report any strange activity. Whether it’s to the nearest police station or directly to the command’s control room, your voice can make a difference. So, if you see something, say something. The numbers to call are 08065154338, 08063299264, or 09129229576.
