Labour Party Stands Firm Amid Allegations Against National Chairman Julius Abure

Labour Party Denounces Allegations Against Julius Abure, Calls Out Smear Campaign
Let me tell you a story about the Labour Party (LP) and its National Chairman, Julius Abure. The party recently came forward to denounce what they see as a coordinated effort to tarnish Abure's reputation. They're standing firm, saying that all the allegations—forgery, perjury, conspiracy—you name it, have been debunked. Both forensic investigations and police reports have cleared his name, so why are people still throwing mud? That's the question the Labour Party is asking.
Abayomi Arabambi Speaks Out Against the Smear Campaign
Now, here's where it gets interesting. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, didn't mince words when addressing the press conference held by Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku of the NLC Political Commission and Prince Dandy Rowland, Chairman of the Nigerian Corruption Watch. Arabambi accused them of spearheading a smear campaign against Abure and the Labour Party leadership. He wasn’t shy about calling out the tactics as deliberate and underhanded.
Let's rewind a bit. Remember when the Senator Nanedi Usman-led Caretaker Committee kept demanding that Abure and other party officials face prosecution for alleged misconduct? Yeah, that's been going on despite the fact that investigative bodies and the judiciary have already weighed in and said, "Nope, not happening." But still, the calls for prosecution persist, even though there’s no legal basis for it anymore.

Clearing the Air: What the Reports Say
Arabambi laid it all out there, pointing out that the forensic report and the investigative police report both concluded there was no forgery. "The file that was sent to the Attorney General of the Federation was sent back to the police because the forensic report completely cleared the four individuals involved," he stated. That’s a pretty clear exoneration if you ask me.
But wait, there's more. The Court of Appeal also chimed in, delivering a judgment on March 6, 2023. Hon. Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Hon. Justice Adebukola Banjoko, and Hon. Justice Peter Chudi Obiorah ruled in favor of Abure, dismissing all allegations of forgery, perjury, and conspiracy. Arabambi reiterated that only the Supreme Court has the authority to overturn that decision. Case closed, right? Well, not according to some.
Inspector General of Police Upholds Justice
Arabambi praised the Inspector General of Police for not pursuing prosecution, citing the lack of legal grounds after the appellate court's ruling. But he didn’t stop there. He took aim at Ndubuaku and NLC President Joe Ajaero, calling them out for continuing to push a narrative that contradicts the legal decisions already made.
"At this point, Ndubuaku and his boss, Joe Ajaero, need to understand something: Julius Abure, Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim, and Clement Ojukwu have no case to answer," Arabambi declared. He emphasized that any attempt to issue an ultimatum to the Attorney General of the Federation over a case already settled by the Court of Appeal is absurd and goes against the rule of law.
No Tolerance for Intimidation
The Labour Party isn’t backing down. Arabambi made it crystal clear that attempts to intimidate the party leadership through baseless accusations will not be tolerated. "Ndubuaku and his group are clearly against every principle of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) regarding adherence to the rule of law," he said. The party is ready to stand its ground and protect its integrity against those who would try to tarnish its reputation.
In summary, the Labour Party is drawing a line in the sand, defending its leadership and the integrity of its processes. They’re standing by Julius Abure and ensuring that the rule of law prevails, no matter how loud the noise gets. It’s a powerful stance, and one that shows the party’s commitment to transparency and justice.
