Tragic Ambush And Rising Security Concerns In Nigeria

Two Soldiers Ambushed in Kaduna: A Heartbreaking Incident
Let’s talk about something that really pulls at the heartstrings. On April 2, 2025, around 4:41 PM, two brave soldiers from the 312 Battalion, stationed at Kalapanzi Barracks in Kaduna, were ambushed by armed assailants in Babar Saura. This tragic event was revealed in a publication on Thursday morning by security expert Zagazola Makama, and it’s a story that needs to be told.
Makama shared that intelligence sources have indicated the soldiers were attacked by three heavily armed assailants. These attackers, equipped with advanced weapons, opened fire without warning. The result? Corporal James (last name undisclosed) lost his life, and Private Ibrahim Bazalla was left severely injured. It's moments like these that remind us just how dangerous the line of duty can be for our soldiers.
But the tragedy doesn’t end there. The attackers didn’t just harm the soldiers—they made off with two AK-47 rifles belonging to them before fleeing the scene. Now, these weapons are in the hands of dangerous individuals, which poses a significant threat to public safety.

Swift Action and Medical Attention
The injured soldiers were quickly transported to the 44 Army Reference Hospital. Unfortunately, Corporal James was pronounced dead upon arrival, but Private Bazalla is currently receiving treatment for his wounds. The medical staff is doing everything they can to ensure his recovery, and we’re all hoping for the best.
Following the attack, a joint operation was immediately launched. Military forces, police, and local vigilante groups worked together to track the assailants. This collaboration led to the attackers being traced to Degel2 in Kaduna. In a desperate attempt to escape, the attackers abandoned a silver Toyota Corolla but ended up forcibly taking a white Toyota Venza from a civilian named Abdullahi Mohammed, who lives in Badarawa, Kaduna. Authorities are now working tirelessly to apprehend these suspects and recover the stolen vehicle.
Another Attack in Enugu: Rising Tensions
Just a week earlier, another alarming incident took place. Gunmen attacked the Awgu Divisional Police Headquarters in Enugu State, leading to the death of Police Constable Akpa Emmanuel. This attack not only claimed a life but also left the community in a state of fear and uncertainty.
According to sources, the assailants didn’t stop at harming a police officer. They vandalized facilities at the station and made off with weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and two riot guns. This attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 24, 2025, and the details surrounding it are still unclear. The incident has left Awgu town on edge, with heavy security deployment as spy agents and other operatives have taken over the area.
Strengthening Security Measures
In response to this attack, the new Commissioner of Police in Enugu, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has taken swift action. He dispatched the Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Special Forces, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and other tactical teams to bolster security at the division. This attack happened just weeks after the posting of a new Divisional Police Officer to the station, making it all the more alarming.
These incidents highlight the pressing need for enhanced security measures across the country. Our brave soldiers and police officers are on the front lines, risking their lives every day to protect us. It’s crucial that we support them in every way possible and ensure that they have the resources they need to combat these threats effectively.
