Supreme Court Ruling: Gov Fubara Faces Criticism – Senator Abe Weighs In

Former HoS Accuses Suspended Gov Fubara of Orchestrating State Crisis
The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, finds himself in hot water after a former Head of Service (HoS) of the state, George Nwaeke, publicly accused him of masterminding the recent political chaos engulfing the region. According to Naija News, Nwaeke's accusations come at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a state of emergency, a move credited with averting widespread disorder and economic collapse. The situation in Rivers State has been tense, and the accusations have added fuel to an already heated political debate.
George Nwaeke's Allegations: A Closer Look
Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt, Nwaeke painted a vivid picture of what he claimed to be Fubara's role in the state's turmoil. He alleged that the governor was not only involved in planning the destruction of public assets but also harbored intentions that could have thrown the state into utter anarchy. Nwaeke's claims were specific and pointed, accusing Fubara of orchestrating a series of events designed to destabilize the region. Furthermore, Nwaeke insisted that his resignation from the Head of Service position was entirely voluntary, dismissing any notion that it was forced upon him.
Fubara Hits Back: Dismissing Nwaeke's Claims
In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, Fubara dismissed Nwaeke's allegations as laughable and urged Nigerians to ignore them. The governor personally signed the statement, emphasizing his stance on the matter. He wrote, "My attention has been drawn to a press briefing by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke aired on Channels Television on Friday the 28th of March 2025." Fubara went on to clarify that while he might have ignored such claims under normal circumstances, the potential damage to his reputation and the state's stability necessitated a response.

"First, on the claim that he was aware of my discussions and plans to support Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid, it is laughable that Dr. Nwaeke would be part of any high-level political meeting as Head of Service, much more sitting in my alleged night meetings with Bala Mohammed and militants like he claimed. Howbeit, none of such meetings ever occurred," Fubara stated. He further refuted the notion that he had ever met with militants or criminal groups to destabilize the state, pointing out that he has consistently advocated for peace, even in the face of provocation.
The Truth Behind the Allegations
Fubara's statement continued to dissect Nwaeke's claims, arguing that they were baseless and designed to tarnish his image. He emphasized that his administration has always prioritized stability and progress in Rivers State. The governor accused Nwaeke of being compromised, suggesting that external forces may have coerced or paid him to fabricate these stories. Fubara appealed to the people of Rivers State and all Nigerians to disregard Nwaeke's statements, labeling them as desperate attempts to undermine the ongoing peace efforts initiated by President Tinubu.
"It is on record that I have been at the forefront preaching peace in the State even in the face of obvious provocations. The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me. I call on all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nwaeke as they are mere desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration, and undermine the peace process by Mr. President," Fubara concluded.
As the political drama unfolds, all eyes remain on Rivers State, where the battle for credibility and leadership continues to play out in the public eye.
