The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced the blackout, attributing it to a technical fault affecting the electricity supply to multiple neighborhoods. Even military zones such as Wubassy Barracks, Army War College, Mambila Barrack, Yara Dua Barrack, DIA, Niger Barrack, Lungi & Agu Irosi Barrack, and surrounding areas are dealing with the same issue. Recent Planned Blackouts

Before we dive further, it’s worth mentioning that this latest outage comes just weeks after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced a planned blackout in parts of Abuja back in February. The TCN said this was necessary to carry out maintenance work on the 2x100MVA TR3 and TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation. The scheduled maintenance happened on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, lasting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As a result, key areas such as the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro experienced a seven-hour power interruption. Other affected zones included Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, and Apo Mechanic—all without electricity during the maintenance window. According to TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the outage was unavoidable because Abuja DisCo couldn’t receive bulk power supply during the maintenance period.
