Plateau State Governor Urges Action Against Non-State Actors

Concerns from Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang
Listen, folks, this is a serious issue we need to talk about. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has come forward with some pretty strong words about the state of security in Nigeria. He believes that letting Boko Haram and other non-state actors gain almost overwhelming power in certain parts of the country was a huge mistake. And he’s not wrong, right? These groups have wreaked havoc for over a decade, especially in the northeast, planting bombs and landmines wherever they please.
Unveiling New Technology to Combat Threats
Naija News is on the scene and we’ve learned that Governor Mutfwang recently spoke at an event showcasing attack UAVs (drones) and testing locally-made bombs. This all went down at the Briech UAS headquarters in Kuje, Abuja—a company specializing in drone production. Mutfwang emphasized the importance of leaders and key stakeholders stepping up to ensure no one operates within Nigeria’s borders without consequences. He wants us to partner with local companies to develop security technology instead of relying on foreign sources, which often come with delays and red tape.
Let me break it down for you. The governor expressed his appreciation for the Nigerian armed forces, saying, “First off, I want to thank the Nigerian armed forces for their tireless efforts in securing our nation.” He went on to say, “As governor of Plateau State, I can tell you firsthand about the professionalism and efficiency of the armed forces of Nigeria. And because of that, Plateau is reclaiming its reputation as the home of peace and tourism.”

The Role of Technology in Strengthening Security
One of the reasons Plateau is turning things around? Technology. Mutfwang explained, “One of the tools making this possible is the effective use of technology to handle these threats. That’s where Briech UAS has partnered with our state. We’ve formed a collaboration that allows some of their advanced facilities to be deployed here, and it’s made a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of our ground forces.”
But here’s the kicker—he pointed out a glaring issue: “We’ve made a serious error as a nation by allowing non-state actors to gain capabilities that nearly overshadow those of our state actors. It’s time to fix this imbalance. We must reach a point where no one operates within our borders with power that rivals—or worse, exceeds—those tasked with protecting our national sovereignty.”
His solution? “I welcome this advancement by Briech UAS. It’s a strategic and smart way to acquire technology without unnecessary strings attached. This is exactly what we need to move forward.”
