Governor Diri’s Heartfelt Speech
In a candid moment, Governor Diri shared his thoughts on the event and the importance of unity. He said, “I would have been here earlier, but I was told the place wasn’t ready. When the rain started, I told the Chief of Staff and SA Religion to represent me. But just as quickly, the rain stopped, and here I am.” He went on to express his gratitude to Asu Ekiye and his team, stating, “They say a prophet is not recognized in their hometown, but here you are, beloved by all. When God blesses you, no one can take that away from you.”
He also touched on the importance of unity, saying, “Haa Izon! is a call for unity, not war. I’m thrilled with your success story as an Ijaw gospel musician, and I’ve appointed you as the Ambassador of the Ijaw Language. My office will be in touch with you soon.”
Addressing the audience, the governor urged everyone, especially parents, to teach their children the Ijaw language. He emphasized the need for everyone to join hands with the government in preserving the language from extinction. He concluded by saying, “My dear people of Bayelsa, our state is peaceful because Ijaw people are peaceful. Let’s continue to support both the state and Federal Governments. We’re proving that the best place to live is Bayelsa. Just as we’ve given Nigeria oil and gas, Bayelsa is also the cradle of the marine and blue economy, which Nigeria is missing out on. So, we thank the Federal Government for creating the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.”

The event was nothing short of spectacular. Asu Ekiye captivated the audience with his vibrant songs and dynamic dance moves. His performance was so engaging that it even drew Governor Diri onto the dance floor, creating a memorable moment for everyone present.
