Immediate Suspension of Unauthorized Vigilante Groups in Edo State
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate suspension of all illegal vigilante groups operating in the state under any guise. Additionally, the state’s Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd.), has been placed on suspension. This bold move comes after a thorough review of the preliminary report on the tragic incident that unfolded on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The incident involved the brutal killing of some northern travelers, an act that has sent shockwaves through the region and beyond.
Clarifying the Government's Position
In a detailed statement released to Naija News on Sunday, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor, emphasized that the vigilante group involved in the killing was operating illegally. According to Ikhilor, this group was never properly profiled or registered with the Edo State Security Corps. He stressed that their actions do not align with the core values, character, and principles upheld by the Okpebholo administration. Furthermore, he reiterated that these actions are contrary to the objectives outlined in the Edo State Security Corps Governance Law, which aims to ensure safety and security for all residents and visitors.
Investigations Underway and Arrests Made
Authorities in Edo State have launched a comprehensive manhunt to apprehend those responsible for the gruesome act. As of the latest update, fourteen suspects have already been taken into custody. Ikhilor stated, “Investigations into the killings are ongoing, and fourteen individuals have been arrested so far. A specialized team, set up by the Inspector General of Police, is tirelessly working to track down others involved in this heinous crime.” The government is committed to ensuring that justice is served swiftly and transparently, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of those responsible.

This collaborative effort aims to ensure that the grieving families receive the support and justice they deserve.
A Call for Calm and Justice
In the midst of this challenging time, the government urges all parties involved to remain calm and patient as investigations continue.
