The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, broke the news to journalists in Warri on Tuesday. In the press statement, Edafe provided the details: On March 26, 2025, the operatives, led by the team’s commander, ASP Julius Robinson, followed the trail of these suspected kidnappers all the way into Rivers State. Here's how the statement went: “The team was tracking a fleeing suspected kidnapper named Chedeye Mohammed, and they finally caught up with him. After interrogating the suspect, he led the operatives to a hideout—a bush area near a trailer park in Rivers State. That's where the gang stashed their weapons,” Edafe explained.

One AK-47 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered from the suspect. This is no small feat. The police now have a piece of the puzzle, and they're working hard to put the rest together.

Operatives Uncover the Gang's M.O.

According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that this suspect, along with his gang, would carry out kidnappings in areas like Ughelli and Agbarho within Delta State. In another development, the police acted on some solid intel and managed to arrest several suspected armed robbers and gun runners. Not only that, but they also recovered an AK-47 rifle, an automatic pump-action gun, a Baretta pistol, and ammunition. These weapons could have caused a lot of harm, but thanks to the swift action of the police, they're now out of the wrong hands.

The PPRO stated that the team carried out a sting operation in Anyigba town, Kogi State. That's where they made the arrests of three suspects: Zakari Mohammed, aged 31, from the Olugbujo community; Ibrahim Mumuni, 29, from Anyangba town; and Mohammed Hamisu, 25, from Anyigba town—all from the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
