APC in Cross River Sets Bold Goal for 2027 Elections

During a media address in Calabar on Wednesday, APC Chairman Alphonsus Eba announced that the party is determined to reclaim all Senate and House of Representatives seats currently held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2027 election.

Targeting Key Seats in Cross River North

The focus is on the North Senatorial District of Cross River, where the PDP currently holds significant positions. This includes the Senate seat represented by Jarigbe Jarigbe and the House of Representatives seat held by Peter Akpanke, representing the Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency. On the other hand, Godwin Odey of the APC already holds the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

Eba emphasized that the party is not just setting goals but is ready to put in the work to achieve them. The APC Chairman's statement reflects a growing confidence in the party's ability to secure these key seats and shift the political landscape in their favor.

Backing Governor Bassey Otu's Re-Election

In addition to targeting the national seats, the APC Chairman urged party members to rally behind Governor Bassey Otu for his re-election bid in 2027. Eba emphasized the importance of uniting the party and channeling efforts toward a common goal. He reminded members that a strong showing in the governorship race can have a ripple effect, boosting APC's chances in other electoral contests.

Clearing the Air on Petitions

Eba also took the opportunity to clarify the party's stance on a controversial petition filed against Senator Jarigbe by a group calling itself the Concerned Stakeholders of APC in the Northern Senatorial District. According to Eba, the petition alleging misuse of ₦12.5 billion in constituency funds does not represent the official position of the APC. "We disassociate ourselves from it entirely," he stated firmly.

The APC Chairman went further, issuing a warning to all members. He stressed that no one should use the party's name to engage legal services or initiate actions that might give the impression of party involvement without proper authorization. "I want to make it absolutely clear," Eba said, "that no member of this party should, under any circumstances, engage a lawyer or pursue legal action that suggests the party is behind it."

Guiding Authorized Groups

Eba acknowledged the role of various groups such as the Northern Coalition, Centricle, and the Southern Summit in supporting the party's objectives. However, he emphasized the need for these groups to adhere strictly to the party’s code of conduct. While they are authorized to work on behalf of the APC, their activities must align with the party’s values and strategies.
