Church Drama: The Surprising Truth About Pastor Iluyomade's Exit

Let me tell you a story, one that’s been buzzing around religious circles. Quincy Ayodele, an elder at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, recently came forward to clear the air about some serious allegations. You’ve probably heard whispers about the former pastor-in-charge, Idowu Iluyomade, supposedly rebelling against the church before starting his own. Well, according to Ayodele, that’s just not the case.

What Really Happened?

Now, let’s dive deeper into the details. Ayodele recently had a candid conversation with Daddy Freeze, which aired on his YouTube channel. She expressed her shock and disappointment when Iluyomade was handed a letter banning him from stepping foot into the church’s premises. Can you imagine how that must’ve felt? She had expected something completely different—restoration, not exile. Ayodele thought that after his three-month suspension, Iluyomade would either return to City of David or be assigned to another parish. Instead, what she witnessed was an unexpected turn of events.

Seeking Forgiveness

Ayodele shared that a delegation of elders visited the revered General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye, to plead for Iluyomade’s reinstatement. They begged for forgiveness, hoping for a resolution. But despite their efforts, Adeboye stood firm, refusing to budge. Ayodele, who accompanied Iluyomade to RCCG headquarters in Ebute Meta during his suspension period, revealed that they were optimistic about his return. But alas, the outcome was far from what they anticipated.

Here’s where it gets even more intriguing. Ayodele described the bond between Pastor Adeboye and Pastor Iluyomade as akin to a father-son relationship. They were incredibly close. Iluyomade went out of his way to fulfill Adeboye’s wishes, always ready to lend a helping hand. Yet, this connection seemed to falter when Iluyomade was handed that fateful letter. Ayodele questioned the reasoning behind such a drastic measure, admitting that the governing council’s motives remain a mystery to her.

    Desperate Appeals

When it became evident that Iluyomade was barred from entering the church, concerned elders took action. They drafted heartfelt letters, signing their names in the hope of appealing to Adeboye’s sense of compassion. Unfortunately, their pleas fell on deaf ears. There was no response from the revered leader. With no other options left, Iluyomade and his family decided to attend Kings Court, an RCCG parish he had helped establish years ago. Initially welcomed with open arms, they were later told they could no longer be accommodated.

    Sheep and Shepherds

Ayodele, who has been a devoted member of the RCCG for over three decades, couldn’t sit idly by. She likened the situation to Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep. If one sheep is missing, wouldn’t Jesus go after it? That’s the question that lingered in her mind as she pondered whether Adeboye would allow Iluyomade to drift away from the fold. She reached out to prominent figures in Nigeria, hoping they could sway Adeboye’s decision. Despite their earnest pleas, including some dramatic moments of rolling on the floor, Adeboye remained resolute.

    Unanswered Questions

When asked about the involvement of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Ayodele expressed doubt. If God hasn’t spoken to Adeboye, who else could intervene? She emphasized that Adeboye’s words are considered divine, and his followers trust his judgment implicitly. As for Iluyomade, Ayodele insists he had no intention of starting his own church. In fact, she believes he wouldn’t even know how to go about it. Coming from an Anglican background, where his father was a reverend, Iluyomade had left that world behind for nearly three decades. Returning to it now would mean starting from scratch.

    A Time of Trials

Ayodele recounted the emotional toll this situation took on Iluyomade. She described finding him in tears, recounting how he was told not to step into the church he once led. What struck her most was the lack of support from those he had helped in the past. Even in City of David, where he had invested so much, there was no one praying for him. This discovery compelled Ayodele to reach out and offer her support.

    Mediating Amidst Conflict

Though Ayodele didn’t follow Iluyomade when he established his new church, she remained hopeful that a resolution could still be reached. She believed mediation could bridge the gap. However, she was deeply affected when Pastor Adeboye, during a visit to City of David, insinuated that those who left the church were demons. Ayodele found herself questioning the man she had long respected, wondering what had led to such a drastic change in his demeanor.
