Veteran Nollywood Star Shares Heartfelt Journey Of Childlessness And Marital Challenges

Renowned Actress Dupe Jayesimi Opens Up About Her Struggles with Childlessness and Failed Marriage
Let me tell you a story that’s both deeply personal and universal. Dupe Jayesimi, the iconic Yoruba Nollywood actress, recently opened up about one of the most challenging chapters of her life. In an intimate conversation with her colleague Abiola Adebayo on her YouTube podcast, “Talk-to-B,” Jayesimi shared her heart-wrenching journey through childlessness and a broken marriage. It’s the kind of story that reminds us how complex and unpredictable life can be, even for someone as celebrated as Jayesimi.
According to Naija News, the actress revealed that her mother played a pivotal role in her decision not to adopt a child when she was desperate for one. She recounted a moment when her family refused her plans to adopt, saying, “If you adopt any kid, I will feed them to death.” That’s a pretty heavy statement, and it became clear to Jayesimi that her path to motherhood would be far from easy.
A Lifetime of Trials and Tribulations
Jayesimi went on to describe how unfortunate she felt being caught in this situation, despite countless efforts to conceive. She explained that her marriage eventually crumbled under the weight of their inability to have children. In a twist that must have been devastating, her ex-husband introduced a pregnant woman into their home, signaling the end of their union. But Jayesimi isn’t one to dwell on the past—she’s learned to let go and trust in God’s plan for her future.

She shared, “I got married on October 22, 1988, during the height of my theatrical career. Early on, we thought we were going to have a child, but after the wedding, I suffered a miscarriage. That’s when things began to unravel. We underwent numerous medical tests and tried everything possible to conceive, but nothing seemed to work. Eventually, our marriage became strained, and my husband started distancing himself emotionally and physically. He even went so far as to use a pillow to create space between us in bed. It was unbearable, and I knew I had to leave before it consumed me.”
“After I left, another woman moved into our home, pregnant with his child. I was devastated, and for a long time, I turned to alcohol and tears to cope. But eventually, I realized I couldn’t keep living like that. My parents encouraged me to remarry, so I gave it another shot with a man named Alhaji. We tried everything, including IVF, but it just wasn’t meant to be. At one point, I thought I was finally pregnant, only to discover it was an ectopic pregnancy. It was a nightmare, and at the age of 40, I underwent surgery that left me unable to conceive. That’s when I decided to part ways with Alhaji as well, partly because his wife started causing trouble.”
Finding Peace Amidst the Storm
Through all the pain and heartbreak, Jayesimi has found a sense of peace. She acknowledges that there are men who make promises they can’t keep, often using the idea of conception as a way to gain intimacy. Despite this, she remains hopeful that God will provide her with the child she desires. She said, “This acting career has been a blessing in disguise. It’s helped me stay strong amidst the mockery and challenges I’ve faced. Now, my focus is on finding a child who will bring me companionship and joy. If I had ignored my mother’s advice, I might have adopted a child years ago. But I don’t blame her anymore; I just need her to respect my choices moving forward.”
Jayesimi’s story is a powerful reminder that even the most accomplished among us face personal battles that test our resilience. Her courage in sharing her truth is inspiring, and it shows that no matter how tough things get, there’s always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
