FRSC Officer Abducted: A Chilling Night in Benue

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue has confirmed a harrowing incident involving one of its officers, Nathaniel Kumashe, who was kidnapped by armed bandits. The spokesperson for the command, Ngozi Ahula, shared the details in Makurdi on Thursday, painting a vivid picture of a night that turned into a nightmare.

According to Ahula, the abduction unfolded around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, when Nathaniel Kumashe was taken from his home in Tse Aboh, Uchi-Mbakor, within the Tarka Local Government Area. Kumashe had just returned from a wake for a deceased cousin when armed assailants descended upon his residence, turning the evening into chaos.

What's truly terrifying is how the attackers sought to instill fear. Before dragging the officer away, they unleashed gunfire, sending panic rippling through his family and neighbors. This wasn't just an abduction; it was an act of intimidation, a brutal reminder of the powerlessness many feel in the face of such violence.

Local youths didn’t sit idly by. They sprang into action, conducting a thorough search throughout the night in a desperate bid to locate Kumashe. Despite their efforts, the kidnappers had vanished into the shadows, leaving no trace behind.

Thankfully, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives in the area joined the search, lending their expertise and resources to the cause. Unfortunately, it seems the victim may have been transported to a hideout used by kidnappers in the neighboring Guma Local Government Area. This adds another layer of complexity to an already difficult situation.

Tragedy in Plateau: The Death of a Community Leader

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, another tragedy struck as gunmen reportedly killed Muhammad Adamu, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area.

State Chairman of the group, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, sharing that Adamu was attacked at his residence in Barikin Ladi town shortly after breaking his Ramadan fast. Babayo expressed his outrage over the killing, urging security agencies to launch a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to justice.

The youth leader in the community, Danjuma Ibrahim, also confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased’s body had been taken to the Barikin Ladi General Hospital in preparation for burial, scheduled for Thursday. Danjuma condemned the attack, revealing that this wasn’t the first time the chairman had been targeted—two previous attempts had been thwarted, but this time, the attackers succeeded.

A Call for Action: Ending the Cycle of Violence

These incidents underscore the urgent need for increased security measures and swift action by authorities. It’s not just about one abduction or one murder; it’s about the growing fear that plagues communities across Nigeria. The safety of citizens must be prioritized, and those responsible for these heinous acts must face the full force of the law. Only then can we hope to restore peace and security in these troubled regions.
