Nigeria Elites Are All The Same - Adebayo

Adewole Adebayo Draws a Line Between SDP and APC

Naija News brings you the latest from Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate. Speaking passionately at a gathering in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Adebayo shot down any rumors suggesting that his party is merely an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Let me be clear about this, he said, we’re not some sidekick to the APC. The SDP is a force in its own right, deeply committed to the welfare and prosperity of all Nigerians.

Joined by a former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, and other key figures of the party, including the chairman in Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos, Adebayo made it crystal clear: there are no plans for a merger or collaboration with any other party as the 2027 elections approach. He emphasized that while the party is open to new members, it will not entertain individuals with questionable integrity. It's not just about numbers; it's about values and principles.

Adebayo Speaks Out: A Party of Principles

In his candid speech, Adebayo didn’t mince words. He quipped, “Maybe the APC has appendicitis, and they should head to the hospital to get it taken care of. We, on the other hand, are a robust party. We’ve been around longer than most parties out there. Our mission is clear: we’re not in bed with them politically. I led the party in the last election, and here I still stand. I’m not a minister under Tinubu, and all our state and national leadership remains intact. We’re standing firm on our own ground.”

  • He continued, “The reason some people might look down on us is that we don’t engage in mudslinging or divisive tactics. Our party is one of intellect. We’re the only party that leans left, and we’ve been doing so since our inception in 1989. And we’re sticking to it. The solutions to Nigeria’s problems can only be found on the left side of the political spectrum, as outlined in Chapter Two of the Constitution. This means investing in education, housing, healthcare, and good infrastructure. It’s about giving Nigerians the abundant life Chief Obafemi Awolowo once envisioned.”

    Open Doors, but with Conditions

Adebayo extended an invitation to anyone who wishes to join the SDP, but not without conditions. He said, “Is there any kind of agreement between the SDP and the APC to work together? Not at all. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome, but they must first embrace our creed. We stand for justice and progress. Our hearts are as pure as the white horse we symbolize. We want the Nigerian people to reclaim the promises made by MKO Abiola. Abiola pledged an end to poverty, and he paid the ultimate price for it. So, if you’re considering joining the SDP, ask yourself: can you make the same sacrifice Abiola made?”

He concluded with a powerful statement, “We’re merging with the Nigerian people, not with the elites. You cannot claim to be on the side of the poor while cozying up to those who oppress them. If anyone tells you they’re helping the poor but are hanging out with the oppressors, they clearly don’t understand what we’re about. The SDP is unequivocally on the side of the people.”
