Early Education

Vice Admiral Ibas’ educational foundation was laid in some of Nigeria’s most respected institutions. He started his primary education at Nko Primary School and later completed it at Big Qua Primary School in Calabar in 1971. From there, he attended Hope Waddell Training Institute between 1972 and 1976. To further his studies, he enrolled at the School of Basic Studies in Ogoja from 1977 to 1979, setting the stage for his future achievements.

Rising Through the Ranks in the Navy

Ibas’ naval career began in earnest when he entered the Nigerian Defence Academy on June 20, 1979, as part of the 26th Regular Course. After completing his training, he was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant on January 1, 1983. Early in his career, he served aboard several ships, including NNS Ruwan Yaro, NNS Obuma, and NNS Aradu. These experiences honed his skills and prepared him for greater responsibilities.

As a watchkeeping officer, he served on NNS Ayam and NNS Ekpe. Between 1993 and 1996, he advanced to become the executive officer of NNS Siri, NNS Ekun, and NNS Ambe. Additionally, he was the command operations officer for the Western Naval Command in 2006 and commander of the Naval Air Base in Ojo from 2006 to 2009. In 2013, Vice Admiral Ibas took command of the Western Naval Command.
