APC Spokesman Calls Out Rivers State Governor: A Simple Solution To The Crisis

APC Chieftain Ayekooto Akindele Offers Straightforward Advice to Gov. Fubara
Naija News brings you the latest development as Ayekooto Akindele, a heavyweight in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stepped in with some straightforward advice for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. According to Akindele, resolving the ongoing crisis in the state isn't as complicated as it seems.
Akindele made this point following claims by Gov. Fubara that members of the House of Assembly are deliberately undermining his efforts to implement the Supreme Court's ruling. However, lawmakers have pushed back, dismissing these claims as baseless.
Clear Guidance from Ayekooto Akindele
In a candid post on his official Facebook page dated Tuesday, March 18, 2023, Ayekooto Akindele urged Gov. Fubara to fully embrace and execute the recent Supreme Court judgment. He emphasized that this is the most direct path to resolving the current impasse.

Akindele further suggested that Gov. Fubara should take decisive actions such as dismissing commissioners who are operating outside legal boundaries and putting the preparations for the Local Government elections on hold. He believes these moves are necessary until the governor resolves his differences with the members of the state House of Assembly.
He passionately stated, “Fubara needs to start listening. The issue in Rivers State is not as complex as it's being made out to be. Just follow the Supreme Court’s judgment to the letter.”
“Sack those commissioners who are operating illegally, and halt the preparations for the Local Government elections until you’ve settled your disputes with the House of Assembly members like adults. Then, work together to agree on a timeline to present your budget. That's all there is to it.”
Tensions Rise in Rivers State Amid Impeachment Proceedings
The political atmosphere in Rivers State has grown tense and uneasy following the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu by the state House of Assembly.
The Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, a staunch ally of former Governor Nyesom Wike, served Fubara and Odu with a notice alleging gross misconduct on Monday. This marks the beginning of what could be a dramatic impeachment process. The move was sparked by a letter dated March 14, 2025, signed by 26 members of the Assembly, who accused both the governor and his deputy of serious misconduct.
Speaker Amaewhule sent two separate letters on March 17, 2025, to both the governor and his deputy, formally notifying them of the allegations of misconduct. This announcement has significantly heightened political tensions in the state. Ijaw groups have already issued warnings of potential unrest in the region should Gov. Fubara be impeached.
