2027: Who Is The Anointed Candidate? Kwankwaso's Ally Raises Question Coalition Must Answer

Calling for Clarity: Shittu Urges Coalition to Define Its Vision

Asiwaju Moshood Shittu, a key figure in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), is ringing the alarm bells for Nigeria’s political coalition as the country gears up for the 2027 elections. Shittu, a staunch ally of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insists that the coalition needs to lay out a clear plan, strategy, and vision before inviting anyone to the table. He warns that rushing into alliances could spell disaster for Nigeria’s political landscape.

Shittu’s concern stems from lessons learned in the past. He vividly recalls the run-up to the 2015 elections when the fervor to unseat then-President Goodluck Jonathan overshadowed critical evaluations of potential candidates. In his view, the lack of due diligence resulted in a leadership choice that turned out to be far worse than the incumbent. “We can’t afford to repeat the same mistakes,” Shittu emphasized, urging the coalition to take a step back and assess the bigger picture.

In light of another coalition forming for the 2027 elections, Shittu is adamant that this time around, things need to be different. “We need to be crystal clear about our agenda, our ideology, and our action plan. Most importantly, we need to identify the right presidential candidate—one who genuinely represents the people’s interests and has the capacity to lead Nigeria into a brighter future,” he stated.

Shittu is particularly vocal about avoiding the kind of hasty alliances that have marred Nigeria’s political history. He pointed out that the 2014 merger in Lagos was a classic example of political expediency over principle. “We hastily came together just to oust President Jonathan without critically evaluating the character and competence of the candidate we were backing. The result was disastrous,” Shittu remarked.

He continued, “Today, everyone wants to align with Kwankwaso. He’s the talk of the town, but even he must tread carefully. We need to know who the chosen candidate is, what the coalition’s agenda truly is, and whether there’s a well-thought-out blueprint for governance. These are critical questions that must be answered before we move forward. We can’t afford another marriage of convenience—it’s time for a union built on substance and shared values.”

    Kwankwaso: A Sought-After Political Figure

Shittu also took the opportunity to caution Kwankwaso against jumping into any political alliance without careful consideration. He described the former governor as a “political bride” who’s currently in high demand among various political parties and actors. However, Shittu warned that Kwankwaso should avoid alliances that might end up being more trouble than they’re worth.

“Kwankwaso must prioritize the interest of the Nigerian people over political calculations. It’s not about who offers the best deal but about what’s best for the nation. History will remember him more for his wise decisions than for quick alliances,” Shittu advised.

He emphasized the importance of patience and diligence in the decision-making process. “Posterity will judge us. Rushing into an alliance without substance could lead to dire consequences. Nigeria cannot afford another gamble. We need leaders who are committed to the country’s progress, not just their own political careers,” Shittu concluded.
