IPOB Speaks Out: The Truth Behind The Orsu Killings And The Biafra Liberation Army

Unveiling the Orsu Violence: Who’s Really Behind It?
Naija News has learned that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has come forward with a bold statement about the recent violence in Orsu, Imo State. According to IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, the Biafra Liberation Army—not IPOB—is responsible for the extrajudicial killings that have shaken the Mother Valley camp in Orsu Local Government Area. In a candid statement released on Friday, Powerful urged an independent investigation into these horrifying events.
A Step Forward: Acknowledging Security Efforts
Powerful praised the security forces and vigilantes for their intervention in Orsu, where criminal elements had wreaked havoc for over three years. He acknowledged the significant role these groups played in dismantling the criminal network that had destabilized the community. This intervention was crucial, as it not only brought relief to the affected areas but also exposed the deeper conspiracy behind the violence.
Debunking the Myths: Who Are the Real Culprits?
In his statement, Powerful revealed that the Biafra Liberation Army was allegedly commanded to destabilize the Southeast region under the guise of supporting IPOB. However, he argued that this was nothing more than a ruse. The group, he claimed, was recruited and armed by the Nigerian state to impersonate IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Their mission, Powerful explained, was to tarnish the reputation of IPOB and its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been arbitrarily detained for nearly four years.

Unpacking the Statement: What IPOB Had to Say
Here’s what the statement from IPOB had to say:
"The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) calls for an independent investigation into the Orsu extrajudicial killings and the events surrounding them. We commend the Security Forces and Vigilantes for dislodging the criminals inside the Mother Valley camp in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. Their efforts have ensured that the region does not fall into chaos. We also applaud the gallant men of ESN who thwarted the plans of these state-sponsored criminals, preventing further destabilization of the Eastern region."
"It’s no secret that the individuals branding themselves as the Biafra Liberation Army were recruited and armed by the Nigerian state to impersonate IPOB and ESN. Led by a chief impersonator currently facing terrorism charges in Finland, these criminals were tasked with destabilizing the entire Eastern Region, using the illegal detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as an excuse. The real goal was to fabricate evidence against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, supporting the baseless terrorism charges against him. It’s a matter of public record that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been unjustly detained for almost four years."
"Furthermore, these criminals were used to smear IPOB’s reputation both locally and internationally. Despite their efforts, the IPOB media team, along with freedom-loving individuals worldwide, consistently exposed and disassociated IPOB from these so-called 'autopilot criminals' and their infamous Biafra Liberation Army. We extend our gratitude to all those who stood with us in countering the media onslaught against IPOB, separating fact from fiction."
Three Years of Struggle: IPOB’s Role in Exposing the Truth
Throughout the harrowing three years of violence against the Igbo people and the relentless media war waged by the Nigerian government against IPOB and ESN, IPOB’s media team has been relentless in condemning these criminal acts. Through Radio Biafra and regular press releases, IPOB named and shamed notorious criminals operating from the infamous Mother Valley in Orsu and Okigwe, both in Imo State. IPOB was the first to publicly identify the leaders of these killers, including Temple, also known as Butuzo.
Questions That Need Answers
Several questions remain unanswered: Why was Imo State allowed to become a haven for these state-sponsored criminals? Is Imo State and its neighboring Anambra communities the only parts of Biafra affected by this chaos? Why did it take over three years for the Nigerian Joint Security Taskforce to dismantle the Mother Valley camp, despite the information being widely available? Despite these lingering questions, IPOB acknowledges the efforts of the Nigerian Security Joint Taskforce in reclaiming the Orsu Community and praises the ESN operatives for their role in preventing further regional instability.
