EKSU: Management Shuts Down School As Students’ Protest Late Registration Fee

University Takes a Firm Stance on Discipline

Listen up, everyone. At a recent press conference held ahead of Ekiti State University’s (EKSU) 29th convocation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ayodele, dropped some major news. He announced that 13 staff members have been dismissed due to serious offenses ranging from sexual misconduct to dereliction of duty and other violations. This move sends a strong message that the university is serious about maintaining a culture of discipline and integrity.

Why the Crackdown?

Professor Ayodele made it crystal clear during the briefing that EKSU is not playing around when it comes to misconduct. He emphasized that the university is committed to setting high standards for both staff and students. "Under my leadership, we’ve raised the bar for discipline to an impressive level," he stated. "We detest all forms of malfeasance, and anyone caught breaking the rules will face the consequences as per university regulations." It’s a bold statement, and it seems like the administration is walking the talk.

Details of the Disciplinary Actions

Now, let’s break it down. Among those dismissed, three staff members were let go for abandoning their posts, one faced the axe for sexual misconduct, and three others were barred from holding leadership positions for the next three years. In addition to these dismissals, nine staff members had their appointments terminated, while 21 others received warnings for various offenses. This comprehensive approach shows that the university is leaving no stone unturned in its quest for accountability.

With the convocation ceremony just around the corner, scheduled for Saturday, 29th March 2025, Professor Ayodele shared some exciting news. Out of the 16,446 graduates from the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic sessions, 200 will be awarded first-class honors. That’s a big deal, folks! A closer look at the bachelor’s degree classifications reveals that 5,406 students earned second-class upper division, 9,076 obtained second-class lower division, 1,295 secured third-class degrees, while four graduated with a pass. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and faculty alike.

    Advanced Degrees Awarded

But wait, there’s more! The university will also be handing out 162 PhDs, 242 master’s degrees, and 61 postgraduate diplomas. These numbers highlight EKSU’s commitment to fostering advanced learning and research, positioning the institution as a key player in the academic world.

    Gratitude to the Governor

Professor Ayodele took a moment to thank Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for his unwavering support. The governor recently increased the university’s monthly subvention from ₦260 million to ₦410 million. This boost in funding has been a game-changer, helping to clear outstanding staff salaries and allowances. "The improvement in the university's fortunes can be directly linked to this historical upward review of the monthly subvention," Ayodele noted. "Staff morale is high because motivation is high, and this has promoted stability in the academic calendar." It’s clear that the governor’s intervention has had a positive ripple effect across the university.
