Akpabio's Media Aide Draws a Line on Personal Attacks

Let me tell you something, folks. The media aide to Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, Eseme Eyiboh, has made it crystal clear that Akpabio will not be dragged into a mudslinging contest over the allegations of corruption and sexual misconduct hurled at him by none other than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. In a candid interview with Punch on Thursday, Eyiboh emphasized that Akpabio holds Atiku in high regard, and as such, he has no intention of responding to these claims.

Naija News learned that Eyiboh was questioned about Akpabio's take on Atiku's remarks during a recent media appearance. Let's dive a little deeper into this. Atiku, in a candid conversation with journalist Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie on the show "Untold Stories," didn’t hold back. He went as far as labeling Akpabio as a corrupt politician with a history of allegedly abusing women. Atiku also cast doubt on the integrity of the National Assembly's decision to endorse the state of emergency in Rivers State, attributing it to what he described as the corrupt leadership of the institution.

Atiku boldly stated, “The Senate President is known for this kind of behavior, even back when he was governor. Not only was Akpabio corrupt as a governor, but he also had a reputation for mistreating women. Akpabio is corrupt—there's no doubt about that. And it's not just corruption; he has a history of abusing women.” Those are some pretty heavy words, right?

In response to these allegations, Eyiboh raised an eyebrow, questioning whether Atiku was the right person to lecture Nigeria on corruption. He asked, “Is Atiku the appropriate individual to discuss corruption in our country, given our historical context? When we look at his track record, does he have the moral authority to lead such discussions? Is he really the person to guide us on this topic?” It’s a valid point, isn’t it? History matters, after all.

Eyiboh further explained that Akpabio, as the Senate President and the third-highest official in Nigeria, is above engaging in such public spats. He remarked, “Regardless, my boss isn’t interested in getting into the weeds on this issue. The Senate President doesn’t operate in that space. He’s a former Vice President of Nigeria, and we respect him for that. So, no matter what he says, we’re not going to stoop to the level of trading insults or debating him on such matters.”

Focus on National Priorities: Akpabio’s Commitment

Eyiboh elaborated that Akpabio’s role as the third most powerful man in Nigeria demands his full attention to critical national issues, leaving little room for personal feuds or debates. He concluded by saying, “The Senate President is a key figure in this country, and his responsibilities revolve around safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and upholding respect for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He’s not going to get into the streets to argue with anyone. His focus is on the bigger picture.”

So there you have it, folks. While the allegations may have stirred up a storm, Akpabio has chosen the high road, prioritizing national duties over personal vendettas. It’s a decision that speaks volumes about his leadership style and commitment to the nation's progress.
